Many of our clients love small tattoos.
After seeing countless fresh, tiny, and delicate tattoos online — on fingers, behind the ear, or on the feet — people often rush to get something similar. However, only a few think about how such tattoos will look after some time.
This doesn’t mean that all small tattoos made with fine needles will inevitably turn into a blurry spot or look like a failed laser attempt. But there are areas where the risk of poor healing and quick changes in appearance is extremely high.
Finger Tattoos — One of the Most Problematic Areas
In 90% of cases, finger tattoos look bad over time. The most common reason is improper aftercare. We apply a protective membrane, but on the hands it peels off quickly — you constantly have to wash and use your hands. As a result, during the first days the tattoo is exposed to water, soap, dirt, and mechanical friction, which significantly worsens the healing process.
Tattoos Behind the Ear
A similar situation occurs with tattoos behind the ear. As soon as the client washes their hair, the membrane will most likely come off. The tattoo then heals while exposed to water and friction, which quickly destroys the sharpness of small and delicate designs.
Why It’s Important to Know This in Advance
Because of these factors, almost all tattoos on fingers and behind the ear look bad shortly after healing. We do tattoo these areas, but only at your own responsibility and without follow-up touch-ups.
We recommend choosing other parts of the body where the tattoo will stay beautiful for many years.
To make everything as clear as possible, we’ve prepared examples from the internet — this is exactly the kind of healing process that is typical for these areas.
If You Still Want a Finger Tattoo
It’s better to choose a design with higher contrast and thicker lines. Such tattoos last longer and stay readable.
It’s not a good idea to say, “The tattoo is for me and I want it to be barely visible.” This approach does not work on fingers at all. Consider once more whether it’s truly worth it. Most people with such delicate designs eventually end up getting laser removal — and pay an amount that often exceeds the price of the tattoo five times.
Why Most Studios Won’t Tell You This
In many studios, artists simply don’t have the time to explain this to every client. And besides, it’s financially more profitable for a studio not to mention it — small tattoos make up a large part of their income.
But we want to create high-quality tattoos and provide clients with the most honest and helpful information in the entire Czech Republic.
Take care, respect your body — you’ll be living in it for a long time. Thank you, and we hope this information was useful for you.
